Fire Chief Al Martinez

Al Martinez has been a firefighter since 1976, and a paramedic since 1980. Al and his wife Amy have four grown children and have lived in Steger since the 1980's. Al was appointed Steger Fire Chief in April 2004.

Al earned an Associate Degree in Fire Science Technology from Prairie State College, and a Baccalaureate degree in Fire Science Management from Southern Illinois University.

Chief Martinez is state certified as a Firefighter III and a Fire Officer III (the highest certificate level offered by the State of Illinois). He is also certified as a Training Program Manager and Fire Prevention Officer. Al coordinates the Fire Fighter II program at Prairie State College.
