Elizabeth "Betsy" Honea has resided in Steger for more than 25 years. She is employed as the Horseman's bookkeeper at Balmoral Racing Club, Inc. She has 30 years of professional experience in bookkeeping.

Betsy and husband Paul are members of St. Liborius Church, where she has taught religious education. She also has been active with Steger Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8283 Ladies Auxiliary and has assisted with many Post activities, especially during her husband's two terms as commander.

Because Betsy has a child, Laura, with cancer, she became involved with Love Letters, Inc., a not-for-profit that supports children with catastrophic illnesses. For seven years Betsy was a Love Letters volunteer, helping in its mission to send cards, letters and gifts to cheer up ill children. Laura was 15 when she died in 1995 after a five-year battle with brain cancer.

Betsy also has a son Paul, who was a Steger Police Department officer for four years and now is with another enforcement agency, and a married daughter Chrissy.
